My Leadership Style
Communicate Openly - Challenge Directly
At the heart of my style are these two principles I try to embody. Open communication with the team, partners and stakeholders ensures expectations are set and met while challenging directly allows me to set boundaries, protect my team, and encourage people under me to grow outside their comfort zone.
Diversity Of Opinion and Perspectives
Through this basic philosophy, I try to encourage open discussion internally and assurance there won’t be shame in throwing out seemingly random ideas. One of the first things I tell people joining my team is that a great idea is just that and it doesn’t matter where it comes from.
Open Communication - Value The Human Connection
There’s an art and science to being a good communicator. I believe that open communication is key to strong relationship and prevents silo thinking. Fostering strong partnerships, reading a room and knowing what to say are some of my strengths and it’s something I have coached into my teams.
I Believe In Standing Up For My Team And The Values They Believe In
A leader is the first line of defense for the team. To that end, it’s my philosophy that I should protect my team from unnecessary noise, assist them understanding the work, and fight for the time for them to do their jobs.
If you want to get into my head around my thoughts on leadership, this is an EXCELLENT book by Julie Adam, who was the first manager to fire me.
